Lead Designer + Front End Developer

Location: Madrid
Position: Full time

Geoblink is looking for one of those rare but highly valued cross overs that mixes excellent design skills with a deep interest in front end technologies. You would be the official Designer + UX + UI expert of the team (welcome to a startup!) in charge of working together with the Product team to make sure the new features developed by the team look beautiful, are easy and intuitive to interact with and are consistent across the site. That would be your role 50% of the time, the other 50% you will be working with other Front End Developers implementing the stuff you designed and writing Sass/CSS and JavaScript over AngularJS 1 to build the required functionality.

At Geoblink we use some of the latest technologies to find solutions to some very hard problems We leverage Big Data to create a beautiful map-based user interface that provides a rich user experience. We have fun solving interesting challenges! Our systems are built using an SOA approach that allows us to perform multiple deployments per day. We <3 monitoring, pull requests, continuous deployment and automated testing. The trunk of our stack is PostgreSQL, Node.js and Angular, but our architecture is language-agnostic. We move fast but put a lot of thought into the design of our architecture so that it's simple and scalable. We write clean, flexible code to produce great software that solves the needs of our clients.


  • Great design/UX/UI chops with a great attention to detail.
  • Experience solving complex functionality and turning it into a pretty and easy to use website.
  • Proficient in at least one Front End framework like Angular, Backbone or React.
  • Proficient in Sass/CSS and experience with HTML5.
  • Experience with bundlers like Browserify or Webpack
  • Extra kudos if you have experience with Leaflet, D3.js and/or Node.js.
  • Extra kudos if your Github profile has some interesting code and even more kudos if it’s been open sourced.

You are:

  • A curious person, love learning and learn quickly.
  • Have a great attention to detail and are a little bit of a perfectionist.
  • Get irritated when using a website that has a poor design and almost smashed your laptop last time you had to purchase Renfe tickets online.
  • Also get very irritated when you spot a billboard using Comic Sans.
  • Able to explain what you did during the weekend in English.
  • Don’t mind working in a extremely busy startup because you are learning a ton of things, are having fun while working with smart people in an non-ego environment and are building something that has a big impact.

You will:

  • Lead Design, UX and UI at Geoblink.
  • Make sure our users love using our applications.
  • Work side by side with the Product team.
  • Develop the Front End of the Geoblink BI tool.
  • Have a strong weight in how to architect the front end of the applications.
  • Write different types of tests to make sure everything runs as it should.
  • Maintain the set of libraries and processes to bundle and build our JavaScript applications.
  • Review the code of your peers and help them solve dependencies.
